During Numeracy P5 are learning about measuring using m, cm and mm. Pupils work in groups to estimate and measure lengths of different objects and different parts of the classroom and school. Together pupils decide which instrument to use to measure and what unit of measure to use. Pupils compare their estimates with the actual lengths to develop understanding. Pupils are challenged to use various forms of recording length.
P5 also investigate the statement:
"Arm span is approximately equal to height!"
As a class pupils discuss how they can investigate this statement. Pupils work in pairs to put their measuring skills to the test and decide if arm span is approximately equal to length. When all measurements were complete pupils discuss their understanding of approximate and work together to reach a conclusion. From their results pupils conclude that the statement is true. We now know that our arm is approximately equal to our height.
